Dear colleagues,
We would like to offer you a warm welcome to our institution, Centro del Profesorado y de Recursos de Gijón-Oriente, and also to our town, Gijón. It is a real pleasure for us to host this Erasmus+ meeting, which will definitely serve as an opportunity to share good practices, learn and improve our teaching skills but also as an opportunity to strengthen the link between our institutions to achieve the best possible results for the project.
As you will find out, the organisation of this meeting is different to other meetings, and it reflects the nature of our work at the CPR but also our culture: organisation and coordination in the morning, and learning activities in the evening. During the training sessions, we will focus on two aspects we find are of the utmost importance to tackle early school leaving and absenteeism: inclusive practices and active methodologies, mainly on Universal Design for Learning. For that, we will bring experts from both our regional Ministry of Education and the University of Oviedo.
We sincerely hope you enjoy the and all the activities we have prepared for you, knowing that this work we started in Turkey, and we are continuing here in Gijón, is a step in the right direction to improve the lives of our students and help them increase their chances of living a better life.

What we did: The meeting was divided into two groups of activities, namely, teacher training activities with specialists from the regional Ministry of Education and the University of Oviedo, and visits to schools with good practices and/or meetings with relevant stakeholders in early school leaving prevention (the local committee of absenteeism, Roma people associations and organisations working with young people in risk of social exclusion).
What we learnt: the basics of inclusiveness in education; what Universal Design for Learning is and how to design basic activities using this approach to remove barriers to access education.
